Dabolim police may have new space, but struggle for facilities continues

VASCO: The Dabolim police and Traffic Cell at Dabolim airport may have been allotted a new police station, but the space has been found to be completely inadequate by those posted here.
According to sources, the station does not have a shed for protection from the rain nor a dedicated area for interrogation or custody.
“The station lacks space for meetings or discussions, if required, when superiors visit the station and even lacks storage space, forcing the Dabolim police to store their important records at Mormugao Police station,” said the source.
"We are catering to an important installation (Dabolim airport) and we have to rush in times of emergency. Considering this, we should get better facilities. There is absolutely no space here. There is no shed outside and whenever we get drenched, we have to enter the station (container cubicles), which get completely wet,” the source added.
In the absence of a lockup, police cannot interrogate suspects, even if they are arrested.
“The last time when we had nabbed a person with multiple identities, he was kept at the Vasco police station as a lockup is not available here. Where would agencies come to interrogate the accused when there is no space here,” asked the source, adding that there is also no designated cabin space for the PI and PSI either.
To make matters worse, the roof has begun leaking with the rains causing further inconvenience to the police.
The Dabolim police has now sought the installation of a shed outside the Dabolim police station, to ensure that the entire station does not get wet when people arrive and exit the station.
