A woman from Curca had a lucky escape after an electricity pole fell and brushed her head at Xirent-Chimbel on Tuesday.
According to locals, the woman and her husband were walking on the road when the electricity pole came crashing down.
Luckily, the pole only brushed her head causing injury. The woman was later shifted in 108 ambulance for treatment in the GMC.
“If the pole had fallen even some inches sideways the woman would have been crushed causing a major tragedy,” a local informed.
Incidentally, the locals informed that a branch of a tree had fallen on the aerial bunch cables during Cyclone Tauktae and that they had brought it to the notice of the danger the dangling branch posed to the passers by.
“However, the Chimbel panchayat failed to take action for almost a month even when they were intimidated about the same, orally as well as in writing,” another local informed.
“Today, the panchayat authorities came with a hired labourer to cut the branch. But before work began, the branch and the tree fell, and along with it took down a nearby electricity pole,” the local added and said that the pole brushed the head of the woman before falling on the ground.
