Madel locals up in arms over dumping of construction debris

Unloading of construction debris at Madel witnessed an uproar on Thursday with local residents demanding to know whether the low-lying fields, acquired by the Margao Municipality for parking, has become the dumping ground for the city's waste and debris.

Local resident Milagres Fernandes sought to know the rationale behind dumping the waste and debris in the low-lying acquired fields without taking any safeguards. He pointed out that the waste and debris is being dumped in the fields by throwing all norms to the winds.
Council Angelis Pereira, representing Pajifond ward, who had come to the spot, had to face the ire of the local resident, holding him responsible for dumping the waste from his ward. Angelis, however, clarified that no waste from his ward had come to Madel, adding that only a truck load of construction debris was unloaded at the site as per the nod from the Margao Municipal Council. "I had sent a truck load of construction debris at the site since the land is being filled up for vehicular parking. No other waste from my ward has come to Madel," Angelis clarified.
