Goa is an ideal example of how tourism in India should be, and that’s the reason why the state of Maharashtra is all-time keen on developing on the lines of Brand Goa. Admitting this in a recent visit to Goa, the tourism minister of Maharashtra, Jayant Raval pointed out that Sindhudurg taluka is blessed with beautiful beaches just like Goa. Raval also highlighted various goals in tourism that Maharashtra government aims to achieve by 2020.
“There are many forts, silver coasts, dolphin beaches and facilities like scuba diving here. But this is not enough to attract the tourists. There is need to cater to the needs of common tourist, just like Goa does. However, the government of Maharashtra intends to provide high end infrastructural amenities to the financially advanced VIP tourists. In view of this, there are four upcoming projects of five-star hotels being constructed here and a private airport too has been started. While providing tourism facilities, care would be taken for the conservation of nature and preservation of local attractions,” he assured.
“India was ruled by foreigners for over a thousand years. That’s the reason why we should focus on our Indian heritage, our art and culture to the tourists who visit India. Maharashtra is rich with over 450 forts. A thought is on that the lesser important places should be promoted with the help of private investors and talks on whether these forts can be developed as heritage sites are in the final stage. Apart from the ancient heritage sites at Ajanta and Ellora in Aurangabad, Maharashtra has five more heritage sites that are recognized by the UNESCO,” the minister added.
