PANAJI
The Mahila Congress took to the roads of Panjim on Tuesday to protest the price hike of gas cylinders to a whooping Rs 900 plus, a jump of almost Rs 200 in three months.
The protestors, estimated to be around 80, shouted slogans to the beat of drums, and had also carried along steel plates and ladles to give vent to their anger. Some even carried gas cylinders.
Addressing the press in the middle of the march on DB Marg, Mahila Congress President Adv Pratima Coutinho said, “Women have come from all across the state to protest the hike. The price has gone to almost a thousand rupees.”
On October 12, the Mahila Congress had threatened to agitate if prices of gas cylinders, an essential commodity, were not brought down. Their protest today was in the backdrop of the country’s vice-president Venkaiah Naidu’s visit to the state. This is not the first time the Mahila Congress have protested against the continuous hike in cylinder prices.
