A makeshift residential premise was engulfed in a major fire following an LPG cylinder explosion at the Comba locality of the city here on Wednesday evening.
A total of five LPG cylinders were reportedly on the premises at the time of the incident. While the mangled remains of the exploded cylinder were found in the area, three other cylinders were removed out by the fire personnel. Firemen claimed that they have not come across the fifth cylinder.
The sound of the huge explosions was heard at a distance away, leaving citizens to wonder about the cause of the explosions.
The makeshift premises was engulfed by fire following the explosions. All the goods stored in the premises, including cupboards, were gutted in the fire.
Upon receiving a call, the Margao fire brigade rushed to the site to bring the fire under control.
Leading fireman, Dhananjay Kottarkar informed that the fire was reportedly caused due to the LPG cylinder explosion. While saying the cause of the fire will be assessed only after the family submits the details, the leading fireman said the exact cause of the fire is being ascertained.
Margao MLA Digambar Kamat visited the spot and inquired with the fire personnel.
