CANACONA
Crash barriers will soon be erected along a 100-metre perilous stretch of the Shellim road in Loliem-Canacona.
Deputy Speaker and Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes launched the work, estimated at Rs 9 lakh, in the presence of Loliem-Polem Sarpanch Sachin Naik, panchas, PWD Canacona Assistant Engineer Swapnil, Junior Engineer Rajendra Sawant and some villagers on Wednesday.
According to Naik, several road mishaps had taken place along the dangerous stretch of the slope, with many vehicles falling off the road.
“There had been repeated demands for crash barriers over these many years, but nothing materialised until Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes took up the issue and finally got approval to begin the work on Wednesday,” said Naik.
The crash barriers for the Shellim slope will be erected about 300 metres from the highway and the work began immediately on Wednesday.
