The two vans which were bought at a whopping cost of Rs 1.92 crore have been discontinued and transferred to KTCL, the Health Minister informed in response to a question tabled by Margao MLA.
The two vehicles, were among the four purchased by the state government as a part of an overarching early breast cancer detection project. The units were fitted with VAT/CST and other high-end medical equipments required for physical examination and screening of Goan women, especially in the rural areas.
The vans were bought in order to conduct awareness cum screening campaign, to provide mammography screening facilities free of cost for the women, to conduct screening camp in the interior parts of Goa and to provide mammography screening facility and a simple biopsy facility using ultrasound and mammography.
Mammography vans to now ferry passengers
In a shocking revelation, it has come to light that two state-of-art mammography vans acquired in October 2009 at a whopping cost of almost Rs two crore by the Directorate of Heath services will now ply inter-state route to ferry passengers for Kadamba Transport Corporation Ltd.
