According to Bicholim Police, the mentally unsound, Ramdas Bhiku Thanekar attacked his sister-in-law with a chopper on her head without any reason. When family members noticed the woman seriously injured, they rushed her to Bicholim PHC, from where she was referred to GMC hospital.
The police said all family members rushed to the GMC along with the injured woman, leaving Ramdas alone at home. When some family members returned home at about 12.40 pm, they found Ramdas hanging to the roof in his room with the help of a nylon rope.
The police stated that the deceased must have taken the drastic step out of fear.
The body has been preserved at GMC Hospital. PSI Sridhar Kamat who conducted the panchanama under the guidance of PI Deepak Pednekar from Valpoi Police station, who has the additional charge of Bicholim Police, said investigation is in progress and it will be clear once the injured woman is fit to give her statement.
In another incident, Madhukar Patil, of Nipani, residing at Vasant Nagar, Sakhali, committed suicide by hanging himself to the roof of his house. at about 6.30 am.
According to Bicholim Police, Patil committed suicide when his wife was in the bathroom and the reason behind committing the suicide is not ascertained. The deceased is survived by his wife and two minor children.
PSI Vijay Rane conducted the panchnama under the guidance of PI Deepak Pednekar. The body was handed over to his relatives for final rites to be performed at Nipani. Police is investigating the case.
