Man dies after hit by train near Chandor

An unidentified man believed to be in his early fifties was killed after being struck by a moving train on the Margao–Chandor railway section late Tuesday night.

The body was found lying beside the railway track with severe injuries and the railway authorities alerted Vasco Railway Police about the incident at around 11.55 pm.

Police rushed to the spot and carried out an inquest panchanama before shifting the body to South Goa District Hospital, Margao, for post-mortem and other medico-legal formalities.

During the inquiry, police found that the deceased was a male aged approximately 52 to 55 years. His identity had not been established till the filing of this report.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the man may have been hit by a running train while walking along or attempting to cross the railway track. However, the exact circumstances leading to the incident are yet to be ascertained.

Vasco Railway Police have registered a case of unnatural death under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

Further investigation is being conducted by PSI Krishna Talpi of Vasco Railway Police Station under the supervision of PI Amarnath Passi and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
