Tragedy hit a family from Chattisgarh when a 28-year-old man died after being hit by a running train on the Konkan railway tracks at Veroda-Cuncolim while trying to rescue his wife.

The incident occurred on Saturday evening when Dilip Digga rushed to the railway tracks after being informed that his wife has been spotted sitting on the railway tracks.

While he managed to rescue his wife, Dilip was hit by the running train, resulting in serious injuries. He was later declared dead.

The incident also threw up a question over the accessibility of the tracks via roads. In the instant case, there was no road accessibility to the tracks where the incident had occurred. In fact, members of the Konkan Railway police station, the ambulance staff, besides the media had to walk a long distance to reach the spot and to bring the body of the deceased on the main road.
