A resident from Kumbhari ward of Bhati-Sanguem died on the spot after his two-wheeler rammed into the protective railing of a bridge at Zamgall in Netravali-Sanguem and he fell off the bridge.
Sources informed The Goan that the accident occurred as Ramakant (Rohidas) Bebu Gaonkar was proceeding towards Netravali.
On reaching the Zamgal bridge, Ramdas reportedly dashed his two-wheeler against the protective railing of the bridge.
Gaonkar was flung off the bridge and fell into the river with the impact, while his two-wheeler remained on the road.
As the water level below the bridge was high due to storage of water for the Bhandara located few metres away, Ramdas drowned in the water.
Ramdas was working on contract basis for the Water Supply Department at Sanguem.
On receiving news of the accident, Sanguem police rushed to the site and recovered the body from the river. The body was sent for a post mortem report.
Minister for Social Welfare and Sanguem MLA and Subhash Phaldessai also visited the site soon after the accident. Police investigation is in progress.
