A Mapusa Additional Sessions Court has sentenced Manohar Laxman Ketkar to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife, Manisha Ketkar, nearly 11 years ago. The court also imposed an additional fine of Rs 50,000 on the accused.
The crime took place in November 2013 when Manohar Ketkar, then 43, lured his 40-year-old wife to an isolated spot near their home in Kasai, Dodamarg, where he brutally murdered her.
The victim’s body was discovered by their son, who returned home from work that evening to find his mother missing and his father absent. After a frantic search with the help of neighbours, the son located his mother's body in a secluded area, her hands bound, mouth taped shut, and a rope tied around her neck.
The son immediately suspected his father’s involvement and lodged a complaint with the Bicholim Police. Following the complaint, the police registered a case under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for murder.
An extensive search operation led to the arrest of Manohar Ketkar two months after the incident.
The investigation was carried out by then police inspector Ninad Deulkar under the supervision of then DySP Gajanan Prabhudesai.
After a lengthy legal process, the court has now delivered its verdict, bringing some closure to the tragic case.
