Man held for alleged illegal slaughter of bulls

Verna Police arrested a 47-year-old resident of Tottem-Morod, Cansaulim, on alleged charges of slaughtering bulls without the permission of the authorities.
The police also rescued nine bulls and also attached slaughtering instruments like knives, hooks and some stones.
According to Verna PI Uday Parab, Harshavardhan Rawat from Arjun Vihar, Delhi, complained that the accused, Abdul Bepari, and another person operated an illegal slaughter house at their residence for sale of beef without permission from the competent authority.
The complaintant further stated that bulls were also kept tied in a shed for slaughtering. Acting on the complaint, Verna Police unearthed the slaughter house operational at the residence belonging to Abdul Bepari.
Police said a lot of flesh, skin, tails and bones of cattle including fresh ones were found stored in huge thanks, while slaughtering instruments like knives, hooks and slaughtering stones were also attached. Animal blood was also seen scattered, emitting a foul smell.
Police added that nine young bulls have been rescued and sent to Goushala at Quepem.

MAPUSA The body of the fisherman who went missing after his boat capsized off Raj Bhavan on Friday was found on Candolim beach on Sunday, Calangute Police informed. The body which washed ashore on Candolim beach was identified as that of the missing fisherman, Sonu Gauns (60), who is a resident of Ivao, Dona Paula.
