A man was arrested on charges of stabbing his younger brother and seriously wounding him at Haldankar wadi in Mayem on Sunday night.
According to Bicholim police, a complaint had been filed by Swara Mainkar, husband of the victim Sagar Mainkar (38) and sister-in-law of the accused, Sanjay (41), who is presently residing separately at her paternal house at Vaiguinim-Mayem.
The accused is residing in his family house along with his younger brother, Sagar, (38) and there has been a prior enmity between the two brothers.
Sometime between 9.30 pm and 11.10 pm, Sanjay went to his family house, however his younger brother, Sagar, did not open the door, leading to the quarrel between them.
During the quarrel, Sanjay is alleged to have assaulted Sagar by stabbing him with a knife on the vital parts of his body with the intention and knowledge that such act would likely to cause death, police said.
Sagar sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim, where he is presently undergoing treatment.
Acting on the complaint, Bicholim police arrested Sanjay under Section 109 of BNS 2023 on Monday morning.
PSI Akash Parwar is conducting further investigation under the guidance of Bicholim PI Vijay Rane and Bicholim SDPO Sridevi, IPS, and overall supervision of North Goa SP Harishchandra Madkaikar.
