Man held for attacking on-duty constables at Bodgeshwar Zatra

The Mapusa police arrested a man for creating a nuisance at the annual Bodgeshwar Zatra and attacking three on-duty policemen with a knife.  


According to North SP Akshat Kaushal, the incident occurred around 5:30 pm when the man identified as Ayush Manoj Naik, a resident of Naikawado, Calangute, disrupted a cultural program attended by both adults and children.  

Naik reportedly brandished a knife and charged toward the children present at the event.  

"Upon noticing the suspect holding a knife, the alert police staff deployed near the stage intervened to prevent any harm to the children. During the attempt to subdue the suspect, he swung the knife at the policemen," the officer said.  

Constables Sharad Halgi of Calangute PS, Ritesh Mahale of Anjuna PS and Vithal Naroji of Panaji PS were injured in the incident and were given immediate medical attention. Naroji and Halgi were later referred to Goa Medical College (GMC), Bambolim after initial treatment at the District Hospital, Mapusa.  

"Further investigation is underway," the SP said.
