A rickshaw goods carrier which brought tons of waste from a starred resort from the coastal belt was intercepted at the SGPDA mega retail market complex on Saturday evening.

The vehicle, which came at the PDA complex to unload the waste near the bio-gas plant, was apprehended by some people, who raised an alarm.

After interrogation of the driver revealed that the waste brought from a starred resort along the coastal belt, the concerned Margao Municipal officials were called for further investigations into the matter.

Fatorda police, which later took the vehicle to the police station, attached the vehicle and arrested the driver under section 34 of the IPC.

The incident has only brought to the fore the issue of the dumping of waste by unauthorized vehicles in the limits of the Margao Municipal area, which has been battling against the waste problem for quite some time.

It is estimated that the MMC receives around 10-15 tones of waste from the nearby villages on a daily basis, which has now prompted the Civic body to notify certain areas as black spots “ where outside waste finds its way into the Municipal area every day.
