Unhappy residents of Mangor Hill in Vasco have raised concern over the dilapidated state of the public toilet (Sulabh Souchalay) in the area.
According to residents, the public toilet facility had been used by families since the last many years, but complained that the toilet now has no water facilities, no power and doors are missing.
Residents claimed that the toilet roof is cracking and this has forced many residents in the area to move to a public toilet in a different area.
“Though we get water from our homes to use in the toilet, the sewage lines are clogged and this has raised a stink besides causing a health hazard in the area. Despite several attempts, officials of Sulabh Souchalaya have turned a blind eye and have passed the buck to the MMC,” complained a resident.
When contacted, an official of Sulabh Souchalaya, Gajanan Jha, informed that the toilet was in a MMC property and had turned very old.
“We had written to the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) in September 2017 to demolish this toilet and build a new one instead. The toilet is in a very dilapidated state and fearing that we could be blamed if something goes wrong or a small piece of slab collapses on some user, we had written to the MMC.”
“We also showed them the state of the toilet then. We have not received any reply since then. If the toilet is rebuilt, we are willing to
maintain it,” said Jha.
