Prayers, blood camp on Parrikar’s b’day

Ailing Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar turns 63 on Thursday and perhaps for the first time his absence will be felt at the celebrations planned in his Panaji constituency.   

Parrikar’s constituency-level aide and former MLA Siddharth Kuncolienkar said in a message he has been circulating to people in Panaji that a blood donation camp will be held at the BJP headquarters after prayers being offered for the chief minister’s well being at the Mahalaxmi Temple. Kuncolienkar, who vacated his seat to allow Parrikar contest the by-election after taking over as Chief Minister in 2017, has appealed to supporters to attend in large numbers.  

“Let’s celebrate Manohar bhai’s birthday tomorrow, December 13, with prayers to Devi Mahalaxmi for his well being at 9 am followed by 

(a) blood donation camp at BJP head office from 9.30 a.m to 12 noon. Join in large numbers at Mahalaxmi temple at 9 am followed by donating blood for a worthy cause,” Kuncolienkar’s message said.  

Parrikar, who is battling advanced pancreatic cancer has been confined to his private residence in Dona Paula since October 15 when he returned from AIMS, New Delhi. He has presided over two cabinet meetings at the residence and also disposed some official work but has not been visible to the public other than photographs put out by his office of the first cabinet meet.  

Meanwhile, TCP Minister Vijai Sardessai said he will try and meet the Chief Minister to greet him on his birthday on Thursday.
