Manoj’s possible comeback reignites power struggle in RGP

The power struggle within the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) has resurfaced, with a possible legal battle between lone MLA Viresh Borkar and former president Manoj Parab over control of the party and its ‘football’ election symbol. Fresh activity within Parab’s camp has fuelled speculation about his return to politics months after he stepped down as party president. Senior leader Ajay Kholkar said workers have been urging Parab to return and lead the party. He added that Parab has responded positively and could make a major announcement around Diwali. “The party’s organisational structure and future strategy will become clear within the next two to three days,” Kholkar said.

Parab added to the speculation on Thursday by sharing a photograph with Kholkar, former general secretary Vishwesh Naik and party leader Rohan Kalangutkar, captioned: “The real talks.” Earlier this month, Parab accused Borkar’s close associate Licio Roncon of creating divisions within the party, misleading workers and driving a wedge between Hindu and Christian members. He also alleged that Christian workers were selectively targeted for political gain.
