Many commonalities among Cortalim candidates

The prestigious seat of Cortalim Assembly constituency could have the distinction of being the only constituency in the State with majority of commonalities.

While there are three Zilla Panchayat candidates vying for the seat, the constituency also has three women trying their luck at the hustings. Also in terms of surnames, the constituency has three candidates with the same surnames.

Nelly Rodrigues, Mariano Rodrigues and Anthony Vaz are the Zilla Panchayat members. While the veteran Nelly represents Colva seat, Mariano and Anthony represent Sancoale and Cortalim respectively. All three had made up their minds to contest the elections and had also started the preliminary election work much before the elections could be announced.

Nelly in particular had carried out her works in the Cortalim constituency even after she lost the 2012 Assembly election, where she came second in the final tally. Mariano and Anthony however got the boost after they romped home comfortably in 2015 Zilla Panchayat elections.

Another commonality is that there are three women candidates vying for the seat. The incumbent MLA and RDA Minister Alina Saldanha, Nelly Rodrigues and MGP candidate Suman Sharma.

Another class of persons with same commonality is that three candidates share the same surname “ Rodrigues. They are Nelly, Mariano and Miguel who hails from Verna.

Interestingly, Nelly figures in all the class of persons who have the same tag.
