A Mapusa court granted anticipatory bail to an accused in the Rs 30 lakh cheating case in Mapusa.
Additional Sessions Judge Desmond D’Costa granted anticipatory bail to accused, Krishna Sawant, of Dattawadi-Mapusa.
On February 23, Nila Sawant had complained to the police that her brother, Mahadev Warang had dishonestly removed gold ornaments worth Rs 30 lakh from the bank locker and had failed to return the ornaments to her.
Based on the complaint, Warang was arrested under Sections 420 and 406 IPC.
During the investigation, the accused, Mahadev Warang disclosed that he handed over some gold ornaments to Krishna Sawant, who pledged them to obtain a loan.
Gold ornaments worth Rs 5 lakh was recovered by the police.
Objecting the bail, police said the accused’s presence was required to apprehend other associates in the case and to deter him from destroying any evidence.
Adv Gopal Kanekar appearing on behalf of applicant, Krishna Sawant argued that the accused’s custodial interrogation was not required and that he was an innocent person.
Granting bail, the court said in event of arrest the applicant shall be released on bail bond of Rs 10,000 with one surety of like amount. The applicant should report to the investigation officer for four days.
