With the threat of COVID-19 looming large, the Mapusa civic body has urged the public not to visit the office and if at all necessary, they have been requested to compulsorily wear face masks.

The public visiting hours from 11.30 am to 12.30 pm has also been suspended until further orders.

“All the litigants, public and advocates in the State of Goa are requested to avoid visiting the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC), unless necessary. They shall also adhere to the guidelines issued by the health ministry when they visit the council,” said Clen Madeira, Chief Officer of MMC.   The public has also been requested to submit their complaints and applications at the inward counter.

“The public shall not visit the administration or technical section unless necessary. During such visits, they shall compulsorily wear certified masks,” the chief officer said in a notice.

Madeira said that the notice has been issued as part of precautionary measures in view of COVID-19 and requested the public, litigants and advocates to cooperate.

The chief officer has also requested Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza to cancel all public interactions on the two days earmarked for the local MLA in the MMC.

The Mapusa MLA meets the public on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the MMC.

In the meanwhile, awareness talk on measures to control spread of coronavirus was organised for the benefit of MMC staff and councillors.

The officials attached to the Mapusa urban health centre explained on use of sanitizer and several do’s and don’ts in bid to avoid the spread of COVID-19.

Besides the civic staff, MMC Chairperson Ryan Braganza and Chief Officer Clen Madeira were also present.
