Mapusa civic polls: 75 file nominations on last day

MAPUSA
Three former chairpersons were among the 75 candidates who filed their nominations for the upcoming municipal elections in Mapusa, taking the overall total of nominations to 105 on Saturday, the last day of filing of nominations.

Scrutiny of the nomination papers will take place on Monday (March 8) and the withdrawal of candidates on Tuesday (March 9).

Former chairpersons, Ryan Braganza, Sandeep Falari and Renuka (Rupa) Bhakta filed their nominations from Ward 9, 12 and 19 respectively.

The pattern of nomination filing has thrown up some interesting facts as former chairperson Rupa Bhakta is all set to cross swords with her former colleague, Sudhir Kandolkar, in Ward 19. Interestingly, it will be one to one fight as only these two candidates have filed nominations in the ward.

Former chairperson Ryan Braganza will face-off with Satyesh Kandolkar, who is the son of former chairperson, Sudhir Kandolkar, in Ward 9.

Although the BJP and the opposition are yet to officially announce their panels, candidates aligned to the respective parties have filed their nominations.

NCP General Secretary and social worker Sanjay Barde has floated a panel under the banner of Shree Bodgeshwar Development Front and has fielded six candidates “ Vaibhav Parastekar (Ward 1), Sayyad Gauspir (Ward 14), Manita Gadekar (Ward 15), Suhas Sakalkar (Ward 16), Vaishali Barde (Ward 17) and Reshma Mathker (Ward 18) for the civic elections in Mapusa.

Several former councillors “ Anand Bhaidkar (Ward 1), Alpha Bhaidkar (Ward 2), Franky Carvalho (Ward 7) and Rajsingh Rane (Ward 17) have filed their nominations on the last day.

A host of candidates with no party affiliations whatsoever have also filed their nominations on the last day.
