MAPUSA: In a keenly held contest, the outgoing managing committee with Salvador Pinto as the president was re-elected in Mapusa Comunidade on Sunday.
Consequently, Ryan Braganza and Martin Carrasco were re-elected as the attorney and the treasurer respectively for the next three years.
Salvador’s panel was backed by Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza, while the panel of Savio D’Souza had the backing of former president and politician Michael Carrasco.
Salvador Pinto polled 174 votes, while his rival Savio D’Souza backed by Michael Carrasco got 145 votes.
In all, 339 Gaunkars some of whom came from the neighbouring states were present for the election. Audhut Chodankar was the presiding officer at the election.
