MAPUSA
The Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) and its administration have hit another low.
A councillor of Mapusa has accused the civic staff and the engineering officials of not providing information to the public and even to elected representatives.
In a letter to MMC Chief Officer, councillor Prakash Bhivshet said that applications/written requests made to the municipality were not acted upon by the civic staff.
He also accused an engineer of the municipality of failing to act on illegalities taking place within the jurisdiction of his ward.
Bhivshet informed that he had written to the MMC Chief Officer seeking details about some constructions coming up in ward 20 at Gaunsa-Vaddo.
But even after four months the concerned engineer who is responsible to look after his ward had failed to provide the details.
“If an elected representative is not furnished with details sought for, one can imagine the plight of the common man. If the information is not available with the civic body then the staff is bound to respond to the client instead of making people wait endlessly,” Bhivshet said.
The councillor also accused a municipal engineer of shielding people involved in illegal activities in his ward.
“Finally, we are answerable to the people. The municipal officials must provide proper answers and details on projects coming up in the ward,” he said.
Bhivshet has requested the chief officer to keep a strict watch on the municipality staff and seek periodical reports from them.
