Sending out a stern message to the criminals seeking to make Goa their hideout, North Goa SP Shobit Saxena said that such criminals should get rid of such misconceptions as Goa Police is sincere in its efforts to ensure peace in the State.
“Whoever wants to come and seek refuge in Goa, or seeks to go undetected is being caught. And I want to inform everyone that the criminals, who are under the misconception that they can come and stay safely in Goa, need to get rid of this misconception because Goa Police is sincere in its efforts to ensure peace and security in Goa,” Saxena informed while stating that requests for assistance to nab criminals from other states are being pursued by the police.
“We are also carrying out a very intensive programme 'know your neighbour' and 'know your police officer' to ensure that no criminals can hide in Goa. I urge the people to inform of any suspicious tenant or person staying in their surroundings,” he appealed.
Saxena also laid a thrust on the verification drive as he said that it helps in knowing the antecedents of the tenants.
“The verification drive helps as it goes to that person's original police station and all records are obtained, whether the person is involved in any criminal incidents. It also acts as a deterrent on people as they know that we are carrying verification drives. Thus far, in the last six months, over 25,000 verifications have been carried out in North Goa,” he stated.
The SP further urged commercial establishments to adopt the system of casinos keeping track records of visitors.
“The casinos have a very good system of keeping the records of anybody who is entering. They also have a very good CCTV network and a detailed register system. I would urge other commercial establishments like big clubs, restaurants, hotels, malls, etc to adopt the same as it is very helpful and acts as a big deterrent against criminals,” Saxena said.
