MAPUSA
A Mapusa court has issued summons to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a case for violation of model code of conduct in the 2017 assembly elections in the State, asking him to remain present in the court on Wednesday (November 29).
The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court in Mapusa issued the summons to the Delhi CM on the charge of violating section 123 (1) of The Representation of the People Act and section 171 B, 171 E of the IPC dealing with bribery.
The case dates back to the assembly elections held in the State in 2017 when on the direction of the Goa State Election Commission, the then Returning Officer Gurudas Desai had lodged a complaint against the Delhi CM with the Mapusa Police.
Desai in his complaint had alleged that during an election meeting held in Mapusa, Kejriwal had urged the voters to accept money from other candidates in the fray but vote only for the AAP candidate.
Mapusa Police had registered a non-cognizable offence against the Delhi CM.
Reacting to the court summons against the AAP national convener, Goa AAP President Amit Palekar said the case was nothing but political vendetta.
He said the party has received the summons just a day before Kejriwal is supposed to appear before the court.
“I will represent Kejriwal in the court and accordingly we will take a call seeking further legal remedy in the case,” Palekar said.
