As many as nine riders, six tourists and three locals, were injured when five two-wheelers skidded on fish water which spilled from a container truck on the slope of Karmalghat along the NH66 highway on Tuesday afternoon.
While three two-wheelers were rent-a-bike carrying six tourists, the other two two-wheelers were carrying a local couple on one vehicle and a rider on the other vehicle.
According to the victims, the incident took place at about 2 pm as they were heading towards Margao. When the were on the top of Karmalghat, the first two-wheeler skidded and both the rider and pillion rider fell on the road.
A few seconds later, the second and third two-wheelers in close proximity to each other also skidded and fell on the road. Then, a local couple on a scooter fell down and a short while later, a rider on another vehicle also skidded. Except for the local woman, all other riders and pillion riders suffered bruises on their hands, arms, shoulders and legs. The tourists informed that a container truck in front of them had left a trail of fish water.
“This made the road wet and slippery, causing the five two-wheelers to skid one after the other. The water quickly dried up with the hot afternoon sun,” said one tourist.
A group of media persons travelling in a car stopped and rendered assistance to the nine riders.
