Shree Bodgeshwar Shetkari Sangh and Kul Mundkar Sangarsh Samiti on Sunday lashed out at the BJP-led government for its anti-farmer policies and for pandering to the builder’s lobby in the State.

“The government has taken land from farmers at a pittance for various development projects in Mapusa. The fish market, bus stand, fire brigade building, Verla-Canca bypass road “ all these projects have come up on agricultural land,” said Sanjay Barde, President of Shree Bodgeshwar Shetkari Sangh.

Many farmers have voluntarily given up land for the sake of public projects, but the government has failed to compensate them adequately, he said.

He hit out at Deputy Chief Minister and local MLA Francis D’Souza for decimating the opposition in Mapusa.

“There’s no opposition in Mapusa. Not a single councillor is ready to oppose the local MLA,” Barde said.

He further said the local MLA along with the government was planning to bring the downtown scheme by usurping farmer’s land.

Social activist Ramkrishna Jhallmi pointed out that blatant land filling was being carried out all around the State even as the police and the administration remained mere spectators.

“The single window clearance system has been introduced to facilitate the builders,” Jhalmi claimed.

Mapusa Congress Block president, Vijay Bhike lamented that projects started by the Congress government were yet to be completed in Mapusa.

“Even after four years, projects initiated by the Congress government, such as the sewerage, police station, municipality, etc, are yet to be completed,” Bhike said.
