MAPUSA
Stating that the Mapusa civic body influences all other seven constituencies in Bardez, former chief minister and observer for Mapusa civic election, Laxmikant Parsekar on Tuesday said winning Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) election was very important for the party.
He further said besides the seven constituencies in Bardez, MMC also influences the two constituencies in Pernem.
“Considering the influence it has on so many constituencies, MMC is very crucial for BJP,” Parsekar said.
The former chief minister was addressing the media while declaring the 20 candidates of the BJP panel “ Mapusa Development Front “ for the MMC election.
Earlier, convenor of Mapusa Development Front, Rupesh Kamat announced the names of all 20 candidates for the Mapusa civic polls. Continuing, Parsekar said former deputy chief minister late Francisco D’Souza was first elected as a councillor and went to become chairperson of the council and then rose to become the deputy CM of the State. “With his hard work and performance in the political field, late Francisco D’Souza has given immense contribution to BJP and the State,” he said.
He said allegations were made that women were not given due representation in the council reservation, but the party has given 45 percent representation in Mapusa, with 9 out of 20 candidates being women.
He said the BJP has worked hard to put a good team in Mapusa and urged the BJP karyakartas to work with all their might to elect all 20 candidates in the ensuing civic election.
Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza said the Mapusa Development Front would focus to make Mapusa self-sustainable and self-reliant.
He said all candidates were selected by consulting a lot of people and they would perform and deliver for the city of Mapusa.
He said the BJP panel has a right mix of experience and new faces which will guide the future of the city in the right direction. “I promise the people of Mapusa that we will provide good governance and a stable municipal council in Mapusa,” D’Souza said.
Aldona MLA, Glenn Ticlo also spoke on the occasion.
