Mapusa man held for outraging modesty

A 28-year-old man from Mapusa was arrested on charges of outraging the modesty of a minor girl on Sunday evening.

The accused, Venkat Swamy (28) from Housing Board, Mapusa alleged tried to get fresh with a 17-year-old girl, police informed.

Sources in the police informed that the accused had gone to his relation’s house at Canca Bund on Sunday. The girl’s house is also located in the area.

At around 7.30 pm, the accused noticed the girl outside her house and under the cover of darkness, accosted her. The girl somehow wriggled herself out of his grasp which annoyed him. He then retaliated and hit her back.

A commotion ensued and the people who gathered at the site questioned the man’s behaviour.

Later, the mother of the victim girl lodged a complaint with the police.

The police arrested the accused on charges of outraging the modesty and criminal intimidation under Sections 504, 506, 325, 509, 354, 354 (a), 354 (d) of the IPC. PSI Paresh Ramnathkar is investigating the case.
