Mapusa MLA healthier than CM, must be reinstated in cabinet: NCP

MAPUSA: Stating that Chief Minister who is in poor health and unable to speak has no right to run the government, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Thursday demanded that government should reinstate the Mapusa MLA, who appears to be in better health then the CM, as a minister.

“A chief minister who is unable to speak has no right to run the government. They removed Mapusa MLA, Francisco D’Souza from the minister’s post but today the health condition of D’Souza is better than the CM. We want this government to reinstate D’Souza as a minister and give back his portfolios,” said Sanjay Barde, General Secretary of NCP’s State unit.

The NCP general secretary was addressing a news conference along with other party members in a city hotel in Mapusa on Thursday evening.

Pointing to the big difference on how the two BJP leaders landed in the State after taking treatment, Barde said the health of Mapusa MLA was in a far better state than the CM.

“The CM was discreetly brought to Goa on a stretcher while the Mapusa MLA came back on a wheelchair, happily interacting with the media. So who is in better position to run the government?”

he questioned.

He also alleged that there was a doubt on whether the CM was actually signing documents or someone was forging his signature.

The NCP general secretary also said that they will approach Goa Governor Mridula Sinha and request her to demand for the resignation of the CM. “The governor should dissolve the House and give an opportunity to the opposition to form a government,” he said.

Referring to the 70 crore land deal done with former Shiroda MLA, Subhash Shirodkar, Barde said Pernem people who lost land to the Mopa airport project have been paid a pittance.

“Great injustice has been done to the villagers of Pernem vis-a-vis the land deal in Shiroda and we demand answers from this government,” he said.
