A driver of Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) was dismissed from his job for failing to discharge his job in an appropriate manner.
The driver who was assigned the task of collecting garbage within the municipal jurisdiction was found culpable of involving in corrupt activities when he was caught red-handed lifting waste from a scrapyard in Colvale in Tivim constituency.
Three councillors including the Vice-Chairperson Chandrashekar Benkar caught the driver red-handed while collecting garbage from the scrapyard.
Inquiries revealed that the driver was regularly collecting garbage from the scrapyard and was getting paid for the job by the scrapyard owner.
MMC Chief Officer Amitesh Shirvoikar after conducting an inquiry terminated his services with immediate effect.
The chief officer informed that the termination of the driver will definitely pass a message to all the civic employees that his office will not tolerate any indiscipline.
“When any of the staff is allotted a specific job, he or she is expected to work with full responsibility. No dereliction of duty will be tolerated,” Shirvoikar warned.
He further informed that inquiries against a couple of other staff were also going on and some more employees could be on the firing line.
The sacked driver was employed on temporary basis.
