The Mapusa police have arrested four individuals in connection with the theft of various items, including plumbing materials, electrical supplies, air conditioning spares and medical equipment, from the basement storeroom of a private hospital in Duler. The stolen goods are valued at approximately Rs 1 lakh.
The theft was reported on Thursday when Intekhab Shaikh, the hospital’s administrator, lodged a complaint against unknown individuals for stealing valuables stored in the hospital’s basement.
The incident occurred on September 17. After reviewing the hospital’s CCTV footage, the police identified and apprehended three women involved in the theft: Geeta Lamani, Prema Lamani, and Manjula Lamani, all residents of Manswado-Revora.
Further investigation revealed that the stolen items had been sold to Mohammad Mustafa, a scrap dealer residing in Mushirwaddo-Colvale, who was also arrested.
The police have registered an offence under Sections 331(4), 305(2) read with 3(5) of the BNS Act, 2023, against the four accused.
All four have been remanded to police custody for four days as the investigation continues.
