The team of Mapusa Police which is in West Bengal to record the statement of the victim girl in connection with the arrest of the swimming coach for rape is also expected to persuade the minor to come to Goa to help the investigation.

A senior police official informed that the girl’s presence would be of immense help and would help in expediting the investigation.

“Our police team has reached West Bengal today (Wednesday) morning. We will put our best foot forward to convince the girl and her parents to come to Goa,” the police officer informed.

Sources informed that Mapusa Police were already in touch with the girl and she was receptive to the idea of coming down to the State.

It may be recalled the swimming coach, who was on the run, soon after a video of him allegedly molesting the minor girl went viral on social media, was arrested in New Delhi last week.

He was brought to Goa late Saturday night and produced before the JMFC court, Mapusa, which remanded him to six days police custody, which ends on Friday.

The minor’s father in a complaint had accused the coach of sexually harassing his daughter for the last six months.

Based on his complaint, Mapusa Police had registered a case against the coach under Sections 461 (trespass), 354 (outraging modesty), 376 (rape) and 506 (ii) (criminal intimidation) of the IPC, Section 8 of the Goa Children’s Act and Sections 6 and 8 of POCSO Act.

Incidentally, both the minor girl and the alleged accused coach are natives of West Bengal.
