MAPUSA: The Nationalist Congress Party’s plea to seek disqualification of Congress candidate Sudhir Kandolkar from contesting the Mapusa bypoll fizzled out on Monday, after the Returning Officer dismissed the complaint filed by NCP candidate Sanjay Barde.
The NCP candidate, however, said he has evidence against the Congress candidate and will soon approach the High Court against his (Kandolkar’s) dismissal.
The Returning Officer for Mapusa constituency, Kabir Shirgaonkar, informed that it was not within his powers to decide in the matter and the complainant was told to approach the relevant authorities.
“We have not conducted any hearing as such. But in a written reply, I have informed the complainant to approach the competent authority in the matter,” Shirgaonkar said.
Meanwhile, NCP candidate Sanjay Barde vowed to file a petition before the High Court against the Congress candidate for filing a misleading affidavit on his assets.
“We have collected enough data and evidence against the Congress candidate. We are definitely moving the High Court on the issue,” Barde said.
It may be recalled the NCP candidate in a complaint before the Returning Officer on Sunday had said Kandolkar had failed to bring on record a property bearing survey no 5/4 and 5/5 of PT Sheet No. 170 situated in Mapusa in his affidavit.
Barde had also sought disqualification of the Congress candidate from the upcoming by-polls of Mapusa in his complaint.
