Training his guns on former minister & Congress candidate Michael Lobo, Goa BJP in-charge Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday said some people after accumulating wealth feel like they can purchase the people of Mapusa and capture Bardez.
Fadnavis also said that it was in the hands of the people of Mapusa whether they desire to elect a remote-controlled MLA.
“Some people after accumulating a lot of wealth feel that they can buy the voters of Mapusa and run their writ in Bardez by fielding proxy candidates in other constituencies. It’s for the people of Mapusa to decide whether they want to back a Mapxekar in the election or elect an MLA whose remote control is in Calangute,” Fadnavis said.
The reference was obvious, as former minister Michael Lobo has been backing his close aides Sudhir Kandolkar and Kedar Naik, who are the Congress candidates of Mapusa and Saligao, respectively.
Besides, his wife is contesting as the Congress candidate in Siolim.
The Goa BJP in-charge was addressing a gathering at a function to inaugurate the election office of Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza, who is contesting the next month’s election.
State BJP president Sadanand Tanavade, former minister & Siolim candidate Dayanand Mandrekar, Aldona MLA Glenn Ticlo and Mapusa Chairperson Shubanghi Vaigankar were also present.
According to Fadnavis, the people of Mapusa will never tolerate remote-controlled candidates and will give a befitting response through the ballot on February 14.
He also said that for many opposition parties, Goa was a commodity but not so for the BJP.
“For BJP, Goa is an iconic State and we will strive hard to preserve its identity,” he said.
State BJP President Sadanand Tanavade said people of Mapusa have always supported the BJP and will do so this time too.
“The opposition parties have one point agenda not to allow BJP to form the government. But we will get 22 plus seats,” Tanavade said.
Mapusa MLA & BJP candidate Joshua D’Souza said that in the last two decades, people have shown that Mapusa is a stronghold of the BJP.
“Mapxekars will decide what they want. I am here for the progress and betterment of Mapusa and the State of Goa,” D’Souza said.
