Mapusa youth demand eviction of migrants from new bus-stand site

Mapusa youth demand eviction of migrants from new bus-stand site

MAPUSA
The 'Mapusa Youth' on Thursday expressed disgust at the nuisance created by migrants at the new bus-stand site and demanded their immediate eviction and clearing of the area.

The youth informed that the migrants have been illegally occupying the open space at the new bus-stand site and indulging in unwanted activities that could lead to health hazards.

“The migrants who are involved in illegal activities consume alcohol and are involved in constant quarrels and clashes among themselves disrupting peace in the town,” said Gaurish Keni of the Mapusa Youth.

In a representation to the deputy collector, the youth demanded immediate steps and action against the nuisance created by the migrants.

The Mapusa youth informed that for the last three years they have been raising the issue and even wrote to authorities demanding action against the migrants.

They said the local councillors were informed about the menace but they failed to take any action.

“The councillors failed to take any initiative against the migrants. This shows that the councillors are not bothered about the nuisance created by the migrants,” said Pravin Asolkar, another member of the Mapusa Youth.

Asolkar said the government should shift the migrants to some other place or send them back to their native place.

According to social activist, Shekar Naik, the police and the municipal authorities had in the past driven the migrants away but they kept returning to the site.

“For the last three years, I have been highlighting the issue through a series of videos to make the authorities aware of the ground reality. Sadly, the councillors who were representing Mapusa failed to take the issue to its logical end,” Naik said.

Naik also requested the people of Mapusa to vote wisely in the civic elections and elect those credible representatives who will work for the welfare of the people at large.

A resident of Mapusa, N Shirgaonkar blamed the people of Mapusa for the migrant mess at the new bus-stand site.

He said the mess wouldn’t happen if the bus-stand had come up in the area.

He further said that at the municipal election, the youth of Mapusa will go around and request people not to vote on party lines but to elect individuals with credibility and who will work for the town.
