Soon after tourist taxi driver, Yogesh Govekar alias Mugambo was taken into custody, a large number of local tourist taxi drivers converged outside the Calangute Police State and volunteered to go into jail along with their colleague.
The situation at the Calangute Police Station became tense as the local taxi-drivers condemned the action against Govekar.
“Every now and then, it’s only we local taxi drivers who are harassed. We also have got messages of our rivals who have circulated messages about us. We have forwarded it to the police,” an agitated taxi-driver said.
He said it was not fair that always the local taxi-drivers are targeted.
“I am not a leader. I am just a driver. We are ready to go to jail. The final decision will be taken by the drivers,” he said.
The taxi drivers refused to budge from outside the Calangute Police Station till late in the night demanding that they be arrested.
