Sancoale Panchayat along with the officials of Mormugao Planning and Development Authoritues (MPDA) and highway authorities carried out a joint inspection at MES College junction on Thursday morning, as part of efforts to clear encroachments along the road between MES College Junction and MES College.
Speaking to reporters, Sancoale Sarpanch Ramakant Borkar said the 10-mtr wide road between MES College and MES College junction was forever congested due to encroachments.
“The road is presently less than 5 mtrs in width with encroachment on either sides. Traffic is increased and there is no space for students to walk as well.”
“We have plans to widen the road, have a pathway for students and have gutters on the roadsides, which has already been passed. Once the gutter is ready, monsoon water will be cleared,” said Borkar.
The sarpanch said MPDA engineers had been asked to demarcate actual road width and the estimated encroachments.
“The MPDA engineers have suggested we measure the areas of houses and establishments and assess how many have encroached. We have now decided to appoint an engineer and every household in this area along the road will be sent a notice to submit their MPDA approved plan to the Panchayat, after which we will determine their setback and determine any encroachment," said Borkar.
"Many people have now come forward and admitted to encroachments and we welcome their sincerity. We have told them that they can clear the encroachment on their own. Those who do not clear the encroachment on their own will face demolition from Panchayat,” warned the sarpanch.
