A 32-year-old man from Mapusa drowned while on an outing with friends at a waterfall in Karnataka’s Belagavi district on Sunday evening, in another monsoon-related tragedy at a popular tourist spot. The deceased has been identified as Sumedh Talgaonkar, a resident of Peddem, Mapusa.
According to preliminary information, Sumedh had travelled to Belagavi with three friends. He entered the water to swim near the waterfall but is believed to have moved into a deep section and drowned.
After receiving information about the incident, the local administration and rescue teams rushed to the spot and launched a search operation.
Following several hours of searching, rescuers recovered his body from the water. The body was sent for post-mortem examination. Local police have registered a case of accidental death and started an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the incident. The death has left residents of Peddem and Mapusa in mourning, with relatives and friends grieving the loss.
Meanwhile, authorities have once again urged tourists and visitors to be cautious while visiting waterfalls, rivers and other water bodies during the monsoon. They have advised people to avoid entering deep or fast-flowing water, as heavy rain can make such places extremely dangerous.
