Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, Dayanand Sopte, Shridhar Manjrekar, Devendra Prabhudessai, Rajendra Satelkar, Bhim Pednekar and Sanjay Prabhudessai contested from Mandrem constituency, while Panchayat Minister Rajendra Arlekar, Manohar Babu Azgaonkar, Vikesh Asotikar, Shivanand Pirlenakar, Dyaneshwar Warkahandkar, Gokuldas Arlekar, Nitesh Chopdekar and Santosh Mandrekar contested from the reserved Pernem constituency.
When contacted, MGP’s Pernem candidate Babu Azgaonkar said: “I was sure of getting the Congress ticket, but I joined the MGP as the Congress government won’t come to power. I was sure of winning on any party ticket from Pernem constituency as per the survey. I joined the MGP to undertake developmental works. When you are in the opposition, it’s impossible to do development and fearing this, I joined the MGP.”
“I will lead in all the polling booths in the constituency as people will definitely give me a chance looking at developmental works which I had carried out in my 15-year tenure as MLA,” he said.
BJP Pernem candidate Rajendra Arlekar was relaxed after being confident of his victory and also spent some time with the voters.
“The hard work put in by party workers has been paid off as Pernem constituency witnessed 86.15% voting. The party workers peacefully conducted the campaign and bought youth and women in large number to vote,” he added.
Mandrem candidate and Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar was not available for comments, as he had left for Delhi to attend a wedding ceremony of a minister’s son.
But when contacted, Arambol ZP member Arun Bankar said the chief minister was relaxed as he was also sure of his victory.
“The party workers gave their valuable contribution and the chief minister has no hurdle towards his victory in Mandrem constituency,” he added.
Parsekar’s rival, Congress Mandrem candidate Dayanand Sopte said he has got good support from Congress and rival party workers. “I will win with 55% vote share in Mandrem constituency,” claimed Sopte.
In Bicholim, candidates busy with the mathematics
BICHOLIM: Candidates who contested the Assembly elections from Bicholim taluka have been busy working out calculations regarding their political fortunes.
Though the counting is scheduled on March 11, some candidates from Mayem constituency have expressed confidence of winning the elections.
Mayem Congress candidate, Santosh Kumar Sawant, has expressed confidence of winning the election by a thumping margin, as people have voted in his favour as they have faith in him.
“Being from a Bahujan community, people from my community who are in majority have supported me this time. Presently, there is anti-BJP wave. I will undertake all-round development of Mayem constituency after getting elected,” said Sawant.
GSM alliance candidate Atmaram Gaonkar is also confident of his victory. “After going through the booth-wise survey after voting, it has been found that I will win the election,” he said.
In Bicholim constituency, there was a straight fight between Naresh Sawal (MGP) and Rajesh Patnekar (BJP). Sudan Govekar (BJP) has expressed confidence that Patnekar would win by a margin of 3,000 votes. Naresh Kadkade who is from Naresh Sawal’s group claimed that Sawal would this election with ease.
In Sakhali constituency, there was a triangular fight between Dr Pramod Sawant (BJP), Dharmesh Saglani (Congress) and Dr Suresh Amonkar (GSM alliance).
