The move has sent ripples in the housing estate as the action comes on the eve of the ensuing Ganesh Chathurti festivities.
Margao Municipal Chairperson Babita Angle Prabhudesai said the Municipality was left with no option than to move the PWD for water disconnection to the housing complex since the builder and the management has done nothing to abate the nuisance caused by the overflowing soak pits. "The Municipality had given enough time for the housing estate to rectify the nuisance by taking necessary steps. We know that the action, if implemented by the PWD, will inconvenience the residents, but the Municipality had no other option than to get the management rectify the overflowing soakpits", she said.
MMC Sanitary inspector Viraj Arabekar told The Goan that his office has already sent a letter to the PWD to disconnect water supply to the Housing estate, adding that the PWD will take suitable action in this respect.
