Margao Jan Aakrosh rally to decide on Cong’s way forward

Congress party’s Jan Aakrosh programme is set to culminate in a show of strength at the historic Lohia Maidan, Margao, on Thursday, as a host of party leaders, including former Union Minister Jaipal Reddy is expected to descend on the city to guide the party rank and file and take the ongoing movement against the coalition government to its logical conclusion.  

During the fortnight-long Jan Aakrosh program, Congress leaders visited various taluka headquarters to highlight the state of affairs and take potshots at the Manohar Parrikar-led government. 

Sources said the Congress leaders are expected to unveil the future course of action against the government at the culmination of the Jan Aakrosh rally at the Lohia Maidan.  

Mobilization of the party rank and file, especially from Margao constituency represented by former Chief Minister, Digambar Kamat, is underway. The Margao MLA already had a meeting with the block members and the city Congress leaders have been entrusted with the task of ensuring a huge turn out for the meeting.  

In the meantime, Pradesh Congress Committee member from Margao, Damu Shirodkar, Margao Municipal Council councillor Doris Texeira and Margao Block Congress President, Gopal Naik told the media on Wednesday that they expect around 2500 Congress workers to flood the Lohia Maidan on Thursday for the Jan Aakrosh programme. 

Damu further said that the Margao block will mobilize close to a 1000 workers for the meeting and  the party expects another 1500 workers from the neighbouring constituencies. He said former Union Minister and senior party leader Jaipal Reddy has been invited to address the culmination of the Jan Aakrosh programme. Local leaders, including GPCC chief Girish Chodankar, Leader of the Opposition Babu Kavlekar, Margao MLA and former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, besides AICC general secretary in-charge of Goa desk Dr Chella Kumar are expected to address the meeting, he added.
