MARGAO
Will the South Goa Administrator of Comunidade building, craving for attention over the years, get fresh lease of life in the year 2025?
Well, the tender floated by the PWD to repair and renovate the comunidade building in July 2023, a major landmark in the heart of the commercial capital, could not be taken to its logical conclusion after a lone bidder came forward to take up the restoration and maintenance work.
In fact, the PWD had floated the tender amounting to a whopping Rs 2.11 crore towards the repairs and maintenance of the six-decade-old imposing structure, after lying in a state of neglect over the years.
With the tender down and out for want of any follow up in the last one year and half, sources said Margao MLA Digambar Kamat has told the Administrator of Comunidades to find out the status of the tender, whether it can be revived or to float a fresh tender.
The Margao MLA has reportedly told the officials to float a fresh tender if the July 2023 tender cannot be revived, offering a ray of hope that the long-neglected comunidade building may get a makeover.
Incidentally, it remains to be seen how the government takes the components of comunidade bodies into confidence before undertaking the renovation work.
For, some of the components had expressed their reservations over the government’s move to take up the renovation of the Administrator of Comunidade building by not taking them into confidence.
