Margao police begin probe into complaint against MMC staffer

Say action will be initiated after inquiry

The Margao Police has said that an inquiry has been initiated into the complaint filed by the Margao Municipal Council against the civic employee for alleged misappropriation of revenue.

Margao police station in-charge, PI Tulsidad Naik informed that the complaint filed by the MMC Chief Officer Gaurish Sankhwalkar is under inquiry, adding that necessary action will be initiated in the matter after the inquiry. “We are in receipt of the complaint lodged by the MMC Chief Officer. The matter is under inquiry. No sooner the inquiry is over, necessary action in the form of a FIR will be registered in the case”, PI Tulsidas said.

The MMC Chief Officer had on Tuesday lodged a complaint against the Municipal Lower Divisional Clerk with a plea to register a FIR against the erring employee and investigate the matter and register offenses under the Prevention of Corruption Act and under the IPC.

In his complaint, the Chief Officer had alleged that the LDC with an alleged criminal intent dishonestly misappropriated funds of the Municipal exchequer to his personal accounts for an amount of Rs 17.96 lakh, thereby committing offenses of criminal misconduct by a public servant under the Prevention of Corruption Act. 

Similarly, the complaint stated that the employee has allegedly  committed theft, dishonest misappropriation of public funds and criminal breach of trust by allegedly siphoning the money collected as fees and fines, from the vendors of the Municipal Council to  his personal accounts.
