CO told to submit report in 3 days
MARGAO
The Margao Municipal Council’s controversial recruitment process has once again come under scrutiny. Director of Municipal Administration Brijesh Manerkar has asked the MMC Chief Officer to submit an action-taken report within three days on a complaint filed by several job aspirants and Margao citizens.
Candidates applying for LDC posts, along with local residents, had raised strong objections and accused the council of serious irregularities in the recruitment process.
In written complaints to the Chief Secretary, the Urban Development Secretary, and the DMA, they alleged that the examination process was marked by deliberate lapses. They claimed that nearly 50% of eligible candidates were excluded, undermining fairness, transparency, and equal opportunity.
They also stated that more than half of the eligible candidates never received any communication about their application status or admit cards, preventing them from appearing for the written examinations held on 23 and 24 August 2025.
Margao Congress Block Convener Savio Coutinho, who has been pursuing the matter, highlighted major irregularities and said the recruitment process must be scrapped. He pointed out that the Margao Municipal Council had no government approval to conduct this recruitment and that it was done without involving the Staff Selection Commission.
“The direct recruitment of a Site Supervisor is illegal, as the post must be filled through promotion under the recruitment rules,” he added.
