This decades old water tank located at Borda-Margao is a symbol of apathy and indifference by the PWD, water supply.
In fact, the damaged overhead water tank at Borda-Margao has triggered outrage amongst the residents, who have called for immediate action to repair the tank by the PWD, water supply on a war footing.
Margao Municipal Councillor Camilo Barretto, representing Borda ward, had threatened to stage a dharna in front of the PWD, water supply in the event no measures are forthcoming from the government to repair the overhead tank.
He told the media that water from the tank is being supplied to the Talsanzor area, housing over 200 houses, saying water connection to the hillock will stop in the event the tank crumble down for want of maintenance. “This decades old overhead has reached the present state of affairs for want of upkeep and maintenance by the PWD. Just imagine a situation if the tank crumbled down and the inhabitants of the Talsanzor will be left without drinking water supply,” Camilo said.
He further pointed out that since the tank is now open with iron protruding out, he said the water supplied by the tank to the inhabitants pose health hazard to the people. “The government should take urgent measures to repair the tank and supply safe drinking water to the residents demanded,” he added.
