Margao ring roads remain eyesores

MARGAO

Margao’s ring roads, which were conceptualized to decongest the city from traffic, continue to remain eyesores.

If the Aquem ring road, between Aquem Power House and the Aquem side of the Margao railway station, plays host to garbage dark spot, sewage odour greets motorists on the Comba ring road for want of action by the authorities.

Comba ring road

Motorists on the Comba ring road have come across a strange development during the last few days “ thick black coloured water substance in the fields along the road. That’s not all. Sewage water continues to flow from the damaged sewage chamber into the stormwater nullah, carrying the water into river Sal. Promises to link the damaged sewage chamber to the new line have still not seen the light of the day.

What has raised eyebrows amongst motorists is the presence of the black-coloured watery substance in the fields opposite the mobile tower. In an adjoining field, one could come across stagnant black-coloured water, throwing up questions about whether the water has flowed into the fields from the damaged sewerage line.

When The Goan called up an official of the Sewerage and Infrastructure Development Corporation of Goa to shed light on the presence of the black water in the fields adjoining the Comba ring, the official feigned ignorance over the situation. He, however, has promised to verify the presence of the substance.

Motorists have again come across garbage dumped at the dark spot. While the area was cleared of the garbage and secured, waste has come back to the site again, throwing up questions about the measures initiated by the civic body to rid the dark spot of the waste.
